The word kaleidoscope was coined in 1817 by Scottish inventor Sir David Brewster. It is derived from three Greek roots: kalos (“beautiful”), eidos (“shape or form”), and skopeō (“to look at, to examine”). Literally translated, it means “observer of beautiful forms.”
As an inspiration from this sentiment, this experiment was born to create things that were beautiful — not perfect, but heartfelt.
Beautiful is putting care into things, being authentic with the things we create, and observing the beauty in small, fleeting moments all around us.
Like the way dust hangs hazily in sunlight, or how stained glass fills a room with color. As an artist, I find myself returning to these details again and again — learning new ways to see and express the world.
It’s breathtaking how the same things can be seen, and seen again, so differently.
